Rapportive & Banner Ads

With convergence of web and TV media, and more savvy online users just over the horizon, the usefulness of pay-per-click has unquestionably diminished... As ads become more obnoxious, some reactionary developers have turned to browser plug-ins to block ads or replace them with artwork or even personal photos. Nothing super innovative has happened in this space, until the UK start-up Rapportive released their Firefox and Chrome plug-in.

First impressions are everything in business. It is crucial that your message is clear and easy to act on. If the first thing your customers see are broken images, links that don't work, or other issues, they are more likely to leave without looking any further.

Thinking inside the box: The case for convention

The human brain has the ability to unconsciously perform repetitious activities. This trait was favored by evolution because it allows us to automatically perform mundane tasks like walking without requiring constant expenditure of mental effort. This frees our conscious mind to focus on solving complex and novel tasks. As it is advantageous to repeat a once-learned pattern rather than start from scratch each time, humans tend to gravitate toward accepted conventions.
